(1904-1987) is the biography of a leading figure in the contemporary History of Spain and particularly of Seville, not only due to his relevance for the Catholic Church, but also because of his public impact. He was a strong supporter and promoter of the Second Vatican Council, and he became a key intermediate in the relations between Church and State in Spain that leaded to civil liberties and democracy, of which Seville
was a pioneer.
